Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest free standing mount with the highest peak at point Uhuru (5895m). The inhabitants of this area are the Wachagaa community. The best views of the Mountain are from Amboseli National park in Kenya while the Tanzania side is ideal for mountain climbing activity. The mountain is one of the world’s most easily accessible high summits and a beacon for visitors from around the world. You only attain certificate after scaling to the peak at point Uhuru or to point Gillman which is on the lip of the crater.

The drive to main gate at Kilimanjaro national park from Moshi sweeps across beautiful scenery of cultivated slopes. Once at the gate meet up with your mountain guide for pre-climb briefing before you start the trek. The trek is through the lush montane forest inhabited by elusive elephant, leopard, buffalo, the endangered Abbot’s duiker, and other small antelope and primates. The vegetation vary constantly with altitude and finally opening into open moorland below rocky, snow covered Kibo plateau characterized with giant groundsel and huge lobelias.

Alpine desert which is from 4000m supports little life other than a few hardy mosses, lichen and last vestigial vegetation giving way to a winter wonderland of ice and snow – and the magnificent beauty of the roof of the continent.
